For decades, Florida Refuse has been serving cities, towns, villages, business and industry in Polk County.  It is an important operating division of Republic Services, Inc. in Republic’s overall capability to provide solid waste management and recycling solutions in Florida and throughout the United States.

Republic Services incorporated in Delaware in 1996 and quickly grew to be the third largest non-hazardous solid waste company in the United States.  Its focus has always been providing outstanding service and value to its customers through its 136 Divisions, 94 Transfer Stations, 58 landfills and 33 Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) throughout 21 states.

Allied Waste Services was founded more than 50 years ago as a small business with big ambitions.  By June 2008, Allied had grown into the nation’s second largest waste service company with over 22,000 employees serving over eight million customers and generating more than $6 billion in revenue.  A Fortune 500 company, Allied had assembled an integrated network of waste collection with recycling and disposal operations that served 39 states, over 100 major U.S. markets, and Puerto Rico.

In June 2008, Republic Services and Allied Waste announced plans to merge.  With the completion of the merger between Republic Services and Allied Waste Industries, Inc. in December 2008, two leading waste services and environmental companies joined to capitalize on their strengths in order to benefit customers, employees, shareholders and the environment.  The new company provides collection, recycling and disposal services to over 13 million residential, commercial and industrial customers monthly through its network of 427 collection companies, 255 Transfer Stations and 86 MRFs in over 40 States and Puerto Rico.
