OUR ENVIRONMENT

Our EnvironmentRepublic/Florida Refuse Service today for a greener tomorrow.

When we look to the future, we can’t help but think about environmental issues that our communities will face. Which is why we are committed to the Polk County community to being part of the solution by creating better, cleaner processes and programs through fresh thinking and innovative solutions. In other words, the way we can make things better tomorrow is to lead by example today.

Reduce…Reuse…Recycle.
When less really can mean more.

Customers want more than collecting the most waste at the lowest cost, they want help in meeting their goals around sustainability and environmentally sound waste practices. With our approach to comprehensive waste-stream management, we can provide answers at every step in the process…before, during and after waste is generated. We have even established an Eco-Innovation council which brings together experts from academia, business and government to find new solutions to today’s demands.

Renewable Energy. Using innovating solutions to create alternative fuel.

The saying, “one person’s trash is another’s treasure” is true. Through over 70 landfill gas-to-energy facilities, we capture and convert methane gas, which is naturally created at landfills, and create a renewable energy source. This low-cost, eco-friendly resource is used nationwide in a variety of ways – from the generation of electric power and industrial boiler fuel to powering industrial production – and is just one of the options we are exploring to turn waste into energy.

Our EnvironmentThe emission reductions achieved by out current projects nationwide is equal to removing approximately 2.8 million vehicles from the road each year, providing heat/power to approximately 319,000 homes, or the carbon sequestration capability of 3.5 million acres of pine or fir forests.

Fleet Efficiency. Going bio-diesel to reduce greenhouse emissions.

With one of the largest fleets in the nation, we’re always working to reduce our engine emissions. Today, a growing percentage of our fleet runs on cleaner burning b20 bio-diesel, as we continue our commitment to help positively impact the environment.

Landfill Preservation. Giving back to the environment.

Republic/Florida Refuse Service landfills are highly engineered facilities designed to safely contain waste, but they don’t have to stop there. When they’re closed, we search for alternative uses transforming suitable landfill properties into parks, golf courses and wild life habitats.
